IAPFP Celebrates Matilda The Algonquin Hotel Cat’s Birthday With Fabulous Feline Fashions

New York City’s Algonquin Hotel has once again pulled off a spectacular birthday celebration for its resident cat, Matilda. This year’s festivities, which took place on Wednesday, August 5, included an on-site cat-adoption event, a raffle benefiting the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, a special ceremony honoring four members of the New York City Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad and, of course, a feline-fashion show. Paying homage to the brave men and women who rescue animals in distress, the show’s theme was “First Responders.” Taking it all in was the International Association for Pet Fashion Professionals. Long before the first photographers arrived to take shots of the cats in their police, FEMA and Red Cross outfits, a Wheels of Hope mobile adoption vehicle from the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals rolled up in front of the Algonquin’s stately main entrance. From there, volunteers for Linda’s Cat Assistance, which traps, neuters and returns stray and feral cats to the streets of the city, and operates a network of foster...

Doggie Oscars Outfits Steal the Show at PupScouts’ Inaugural Pre-Oscars Pawty

On Sunday, February 22, intrepid pet-fashion lovers battled New York City snow and crowds to attend the PupScouts Inaugural Red Carpet Pre-Oscars Pawty and Fashion Show, a charity gala paying canine homage to Hollywood’s most glamorous night. A legion of formalwear-clad pooches and their parents arrived to witness dog-world stars take the stage in a fashion show, featuring outfits designed by the incomparable Ada Nieves, recreating looks worn by celebrities at past Oscars. The event, hosted by PupScouts, a scouting organization for dogs, took place at the Wyndham Garden Chinatown hotel, and benefitted the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, Yorkie911 Rescue and the No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA) initiative of the Best Friends Animal Society. Guests for the Oscars Pawty gathered in the 17th-floor room where the event took place, taking in sweeping views of Manhattan’s skyline while nibbling on sweet and savory treats and imbibing Prosecco. Stirring Pug Nuptials at Rose and Kismet’s Wedding Gala

NOTE: Video coverage here on the Rose and Kismet playlist on our YouTube channel Normally, 627 11th Avenue in New York City is a Honda dealership, where residents of the area go to buy their Accords and Civics. But on the evening of February 14, the bright lights of the showroom trained their focus on something a bit different than a group of sedans and SUVs: the Valentine’s Day nuptials of two pugs named Rose and Kismet. A benefit for Pugs for Pinky, a foundation that helps parents of sick pugs pay high medical costs, the wedding was organized by Rose and Kismet’s respective owners, Lisa Kerner and Viki Anders, among other helpers. Roberto Negrin, owner of Hec-Lin Couture for Dogs, officiated the ceremony. As befits an event at the close of the week of Westminster, Rose and Kismet’s wedding pulled out all the stops. Lining the pink runner carpet set up for the wedding party’s procession to the altar were several tables filled with sumptuous treats for...

“My Pet, My Team” Pet Fashion Show in Queens, New York

With residents hailing from nearly all corners of the globe, Jackson Heights, Queens is one of New York City’s most diverse enclaves. Walk down almost any street here, and you’re as likely to hear Arabic, Hindi, Korean and Spanish as you are to hear English. It was the perfect setting for the second annual “My Pet, My Team” pet fashion show, a bilingual Spanish and English celebration of animal style that took place in the garden of St. Mark’s Church on Saturday, September 6. A benefit for the church, it called for locals to participate with their pets, drawing a sizeable crowd of dogs, cats and even chickens, dressed in everything from ball gowns to Colombian soccer jerseys.   Organized by Mauricio Hernández, the event featured three separate fashion shows. The first showcased small animals dressed in designs by Ada Nieves, the second medium-sized animals decked out in the stylings of Miguel Rodriguez, owner of Venus & Dalila Pet Spa in Jackson Heights and an up-and-coming crafter of pet...
